Before Scheduling a Checkride

Scheduling a checkride means the applicant is nearly ready.

All requirement must be complete, accurate, and verifiable.

A checkride is not the time to resolve missing documents or imcomplete preparation.

Why This Matters

  • Prevent avoidable delays, discontinuances, or cancellations
  • Ensure a smooth, professional, and efficient checkride experience
  • Demonstrate true readiness — not just minimum eligibility

Confirm Eligibility Before Scheduling

Aircraft Requirements for Practical Tests

The aircraft used for the practical test must meet all FAA regulatory requirements and be appropriate for the certification sought.

Practical tests in Light-Sport Aircraft (LSA), Experimental aircraft, or other aircraft with non-standard certification, equipment, avionics, or operating characteristics require advance review and explicit examiner approval prior to scheduling.

Acceptance is determined on a case-by-case basis based on factors such as certification basis, installed equipment, documentation, avionics configuration, operating limitations, aircraft stability, and overall suitability for the requested practical test.

As a result, some LSA or Experimental aircraft may not be accepted for certain practical tests, even if they are airworthy, legal to operate, or commonly used for training.

For instrument practical tests, additional review may be required to determine whether the aircraft provides an appropriate and standardized platform for evaluation.

If you plan to use an LSA or Experimental aircraft, contact the examiner before scheduling, payment, or travel arrangements are made.

Practical tests may be declined based on aircraft suitability, even if all other eligibility requirements are met.

Final determination of aircraft suitability rests solely with the examiner.

Important Notice

To support a smooth checkride process, a Pre-Validation Checklist will be provided in advance.

Applicants and instructors are expected to carefully review and complete all items prior to the scheduled test.

Every effort should be made to ensure accuracy and completeness before arrival.

However, if issues are identified during the pre-test review, the checkride may not proceed.

Common issues include:

  • Incomplete or incorrect documentation
  • Missing or improper instructor endorsements
  • Logbook discrepancies or unclear records
  • Lack of readiness or inability to demonstrate proficiency

In such cases, rescheduling may be required and additional fees may apply.

Examiner Policy

The purpose of the practical test is to evaluate whether the applicant meets FAA Airman Certification Standards (ACS).

As an examiner, I am responsible for:

  • Conducting fair, objective, and standards-based evaluations
  • Ensuring all required elements are verified before the test begins
  • Maintaining the integrity and professionalism of the certification process
  • This is not a training session — it is an evaluation.

CFI Renewal (Flight Instructor Certificate)

Flight Instructor certificate renewal services are available for eligible applicants.

Before scheduling, please ensure you meet one of the following FAA renewal eligibility requirements:

  • Completion of a FAA-approved Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC)
  • Recent instructional activity meeting FAA renewal criteria
  • Other qualifying methods as defined by FAA regulations

Renewal is conducted via Zoom and includes a one-on-one review session to verify eligibility and required documentation.

Applicants are responsible for ensuring all eligibility requirements are met prior to scheduling.

If you are unsure about your eligibility, please contact prior to scheduling.

Ground Instructor Certificate

Ground Instructor certification services are available for eligible applicants.

Before scheduling, please ensure you meet the FAA eligibility requirements for a Ground Instructor Certificate:

  • Passing the required FAA knowledge test (FOI and applicable Ground Instructor knowledge test)
  • Meeting eligibility requirements under FAA regulations (14 CFR Part 61)

Certification is conducted through a document review and application verification process.

Applicants are responsible for ensuring all required documentation and eligibility requirements are complete prior to scheduling.

If you are unsure about your eligibility, please contact prior to scheduling.

Scheduling Policy

Checkrides are scheduled only after eligibility and readiness are confirmed.

Applicants must:

  • Complete the Pre-Validation Checklist
  • Ensure all documents and endorsements are correct
  • Verify logbook accuracy and IACRA completion

A checkride may not be scheduled or may be delayed if:

  • Requirements are incomplete
  • Documentation cannot be verified
  • Records contain inconsistencies
